In this episode of the live English show, we’re going to talk about Native Speakerism, a pervasive ideology in the ELT (English Language Teaching) industry that promotes discrimination and inequality suggesting that native speaking teachers are more qualified and skilled to teach English as a second language as they represent the standard of English speaking and teaching.
We see it in marketing, teaching and writing, we see it in YouTube videos as well as how learners perceive what good teaching is. This prevents many work opportunities from highly qualified teachers and robs students of the experience of working with excellent teachers.
