Feeling Invisible

00:27:20 minutes long
audio file size: 38 mb

What happens when you’re choosing not to speak? When you feel limited by a language? Maybe you’ve gotten used to avoiding speaking so much that you feel people don’t really know the REAL you.

When you constantly feel like your voice is not heard – whether it’s because of others not listening to you or because you’re not speaking enough, especially when it matters – you might feel you’re invisible. There’s nothing worse than feeling that people don’t REALLY see you.

Join me for a conversation about feeling invisible, how that’s connected to speaking a second language, and what you can do to stop feeling invisible and start feeling more natural, authentic and present when speaking: https://www.instagram.com/hadar.accentsway/

  1. “Felling Invisible”. This is exactly how I felt before bumping into the InFluency podcast.
I came to Canada 2 years ago and I felt my English was terrible and incoherent, so, most of the time I avoided conversations in English or just go with the flow and not say what I was really thinking because of this fear in my head of not being good enough yet, to express myself. I felt invisible and even stupid.
Listening to the InFluency podcast is insightful, fun, and a game changer 100%. You don’t just improve your English skills. You change your fixed mindset for a fluent one and as by product you improve you confidence.

If you are learning English and feel that you are not good enough I will highly recommend you to listen to the InFluency podcast. It is a great podcast to listen, Hadar is a great host, each episode of the podcast is so clear, they are worth every second. The way she speaks is so calm that I just close my eyes and I wish she was the teacher I had when I started to learn English. It would have saved me 5 years of my life.

Thanks Hadar your podcast is really helpful

  3. Hi Hadar !
As some psychologists claim, we all of us if we are honest enough, can spot in ourselves a certain level of autism, even some traits of a multi-personality character. If we look long at our own face in a mirror, after a while we start to feel we are staring at someone’s face who is alien to us. These phenomena are absolutely normal depending on the circumstances and on how far our phantasy is triggered by our own conditions. For instance, if we are a bit tired and the company surrounding us isn’t very interesing and feel boring or we are even apprehensive, sure we shall escape into invisibility. To consume some scotch on the rock may definitely induce the wish to escape into invisibility if we are in a foreign company. Laszlo

  4. Thanks, Hadar. I am glad you send me such beautiful mail.
My English language learning journey was not very good. I am always trying to improve my speaking, writing in English.
Now I am an immigrant in Canada. Every day I face many native English speakers. I try to reduce my fear to speak English. I try to speak with my neighbor fluently, it helps me practice English.
You’re a good person who inspires me to learn English. Sometimes I try to follow you…
I try to speak English with my three lovely sons, students also. Sometimes I get stuck speaking English, it bothers me a lot, it makes me nervous. Nowadays I started reading English storybooks.

    1. Hey Taslima,

I know it is not easy to speak another language, but I’m sure that if you keep on practicing and studying you will soon see results 🙂

      Keep up the good work!

  5. Thank you Hadar.? you are a excellent English teacher and a very thoughtful speaker. It did speak to my heart. I need to listen to it over and over again.

  6. Hi Hadar I`m a new guy in this community and I want to say you thank you for this so important initiative you have developed, this is really a big opportunity to all us that want to improve our English! Again thanks you.

Regarding the study topic, I just want to say that you are complete right! In my case this is something that happen to me some time in the Job, sometime I know that I can offer good ideas that can help to solve problems but there are not to much time to put attention to someone that is trying to express something when the time is limited in the meeting; so I know that should to practice so much to improve my current level and make feel more confident when I talk.

    1. Hi David,

This is Karen from Team Shemesh. Thanks for writing us this thoughtful comment 🙂
I’m so happy to hear that Hadar’s content and resources have been helpful with your learning journey. I totally understand how you feel. But don’t give up, even if it seems difficult, always try to make yourself heard 🙂

  7. I really appreciate it but I’m willing to speak English like a native speaker, I understand at 80 per cent when native speak to me it’s sounds a little bit difficult to understand them.

  8. I so needed to listen to this topic , thanks, this is my everyday life , feeling so fake when I talk and forceful like I’m trying too hard to make
Myself understood even though I know I am being understood but i don’t feel I sound genuine and Also I end up repeating myself a lot even when no one is asking to repeat , you know ? It’s very annoying

  9. It’s such a deep topic which is also very important. People do kinda lose themselves while learning a second language. Just like what you mentioned, confidence is the key. “Be who you are even you are speaking a second, third, fourth….languages”. Thank you for talking about this. Love it.?

  10. Yes, I experienced this feeling before. And it’s really devastating and annoying.
I think the reason is the lack of confidence and the fearing of being judged by others.

  11. Your topic is so important, yuo put dots on letters. Give us the reasons that lead to feeling invisible and what the soutions help to overcome our feelings invisible.

    Love
