In this post you’ll learn two common ways to pronounce the word ‘order’. This word can be a bit challenging mainly because the D and the two R sounds are very close to each other: or-d’r, or in IPA – [ˈɔːɹdəɹ] or [ˈɔːɹɾəɹ].
In both pronunciations the primary stress is on the first syllable, and that’s the R vowel ‘or’ as in ‘four’. Make sure that you pronounce the vowel clearly, the R part can be very short and soft.
When it comes to the second syllable, you have two options. You can either make a D sound or a flap sound (as in the word ‘Betty’) which is a softer version of the D sound.
Then transition immediately to an R sound so that between the D and the R, there will only be a very short schwa sound.
