The gap between where you are and where you want to be

What can you do when you’re not where you want to be in your fluency?

As we go into a new year, you might be looking back at last year and feeling like you didn’t accomplish what you wanted to in English. No doubt, this is a discouraging feeling!
But have you ever stopped to ask yourself what exactly is holding you back from achieving your goals and being where you want to be? Or, maybe you have improved this year but you haven’t realized how much progress you’ve made!

No matter where you’re at, today, I’ll walk you through four different stages that could be causing this gap between where you are in your English, and where you want to be.

Here are the four stages I discuss in today’s video:

  1. Have you set high expectations that are unachievable?
  2. Have you shown up for your English and created a practice habit?
  3. Have you practiced, but not improved because you fell into the illusion of learning?
  4. Have you improved, but you can’t see it?

Resources for each stage:

1. Have you set high expectations that are unachievable?

2. Have you shown up for your English and created a practice habit?

3. Have you practiced, but not improved because you fell into the illusion of learning?

4. Have you improved, but you can’t see it?

  1. Hi!
Thank you for these amazing tips on how to surpass our difficulties in speaking, if we really do improve in our speaking skills, communication skills and grammar as well.. If do we lose our hope in improving our selves. I would say these questions in our mind were just being part to ask or wonder. Now, I am still improving and honing everything, however there are incremental progress about what I have been studied.. Just wanna say thank you for your helo to us,
you are amazing and blessing to us.. ea

  2. Thank you Hadar! I like the way you talk and I like your voice. I’m currently working on reducing my accent. I have joined The influency community on Facebook. May I imitate you voice, record it, and post within the community?

  3. Dear Hadar,
Thank you very much for the review exercise you presented. Much appreciated. The parameters and the process you explained were also very useful and are simple to use. But because for some of us it has been only few months/days since we joined this online course, it might be difficult to check the progress we have made against those stages due to short time period.
With respect to my self evaluation, l know I have an issue with all the four stages provided. It has been only two months now since I started this program. Given this time span, my critical gap that I have noticed I had pertaining to my English skills learning program is with stage # 2.
Thank you again and your student

  4. Dear Haddar. Thank you for helping me. I tried to practices by watching your videos, pdf materials etc. Thanks again!

  5. Hi Haddar. Thank you for another wonderfull and usefull video that encourage me to keep going on my learning.
I think I am more one of who find difficult to recognize the progress I have made. That’s not easy for me, especially because I am surrounded by spanish speakers and I can only practice English online (mostly). But you’re right and If I stop to think about it, I really have improved a lot, although every time I want to be more forward.
The good thing is that I am doing my work. And I will continue doing it. Thanks again.
